Environmental awareness in the tourism industry

The main objective of the project "Environmental awareness in the tourism industry", which we ran from January 2014 to June 2015, was to increase the competitiveness of the 100 selected small and medium-sized enterprises in the Polish tourism sector. The project has also helped to increase awareness and knowledge about environmental issues among companies from the tourism industry. The program was co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund.

Within the project, we have supported 100 companies; 300 employees from the tourism industry (20 micro-enterprises, 70 small businesses, 10 medium-sized enterprises; 200 women, 100 men). The project assumed, first - conducting analysis of training needs, and only then - conducting training and counseling. Such comprehensive support was finalized by developing and updating of the Implementation Plan for Ecological Solutions.

The project was implemented throughout the country, by conducting 60 two-day trainings related to ecology:

  • building an ecological product brand and company image;
  • environmental management in the enterprise;
  • eco-marketing;
  • green public procurement;
  • eco-friendly solutions and the benefits of its usage;
  • environment-friendly technology and renewable energy sources.

Each participating company received additional support in the form of 16 hours counseling.

The project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund within the framework of Priority VI – Tourism and Cultural environment, operation 6.2 – Development of culture and heritage conservation, Promotion projects of The Regional Operational Programme for the Wielkopolska Voivodeship 2007-2013.
